For all the hype about this school that appear in young parents, it overrated. It shld be zero out of 5. My son has been with the sch for 3 yrs and we are out of there for good aft he got the chicken pox. They are very slow and even seems reluctant to inform parents when there is a kid with a contagious illness. Its NOT following the Multiple Intelligent system coz half of the 8 principles are not present in the curriculum like physical development, emotional, social etc.
Its a private school so if there is a problem, MCYS or MOE cannot do anything as i just found out. The mgt high handed way is the final say. My son's learning has stagnated as he is doing similar or identical projects that he has done in the toddler and N1 class. They do not have proper checks in place to ensure sick children do not attend school.

If you value your child's health and having a holistic learning, then is is NOT the school.

    Dear Jolene,
Thanks for your honest feedback on GUG. I was actually considering it but now, i wont. I assume your child is no longer there? Where does he/she go to then? I heard good things about Chiltern House as lots of my friends kids go there. But only thing is, its pricey.

Wow.. Jolene, GUG was on my consideration list too. Thanks so much , now I will think twice even if they offer my boy a place.

Martha, I heard Chiltern curriculum are more laid back. The promote learning thru play as opposed to Pat's whom I did pay visit. The latter's curriculum is def more academic. Only concern is I find the classroom a lil too small. I have visited quite a handful within the vicinity of Bt Timah/Newton/Upper Thomson. Perhaps we can share some notes? Good luck. :D

    dear girlizz,

yes. i think the chiltern house curriculum is a bit more relaxed as they believe in buidling up the children's self confidence and level of expression and social skills.
    i actually like that.
because they make learning fun at such a young age, the kids love to go to school and love to learn, so they naturally attach positive feelings towrds school and learning which will benefit them in future, even in pri school. i think the worst thing we can do is to kill their love at such a young age....

i checked out Pat's schoolhouse ( will not mention which branch)and it was TERRIBLE! very dirty, hot, and not conducive at all! after that, i gave up on them and stopped considering..

I am puzzled as to why Jolene, who has nothing good to say about the school, would take 3 years before withdrawing her son. She must have been quite happy with the school and curriculum prior to some recent incident that has soured her against GUG. This very negative post certainly does not match my personal experience or that of my friends with children in GUG. Both my kids have been with GUG for 3 and 4 years, and we have been very happy with the school, their curriculum and teachers. I can share our own experience which I think would be a more balanced and fair view of the school.

Firstly, it's not true that GUG Kindergarten is not under MOE. We know it is because being concerned parents we had checked this with MOE before enrolling our oldest son into their kindergarten. Anyone can just call MOE to verify this.

Secondly, we think the curriculum is really excellent. It encourages so much creativity and thinking! My kids really have fun in school and look forward to going everyday! They have benefited tremendously from the weekly science projects, speech and drama, social studies topics, character building, reading programme and creative writing lessons. I'm not an expert in multiple intelligence theory, but my husband and I have been impressed with the wide range of learning. Our children are growing up to be confident, sociable and knowledgeable about a wide variety of topics, and we give a lot of credit to GUG for this.

Lastly, we have had no problems with the school informing us of HFMD or Chicken Pox outbreaks. They are always issuing memos to keep parents informed and even do frequent temperature checks of all the kids. In our experience GUG keeps the place very clean and there have been few children who got these diseases there. We would just like to offer some balance in this forum, as a rating of 0 out of 5 is so very unfair, maybe at least 4 out of 5 would be our view.

Oops, clicked the stars wrongly... should be 5 out of 5!

  • Dr. Jackson says:

Just a quick comment about the GUG curriculum. My wife and I decided to place our son in the GUG curriculum from an early age, primarily because of the multiple intelligence approach to early learning and development. We are very happy with his progress, and highly recommend GUG. I doin't believe there has been a lot of 'hype' about GUG and its educational benefits for young children (we learned about GUG from a friend's recommendation), but perhaps there should be!
