I have switched my son from Chiltern House to Kinderland at the middle of his K1. He is now in K2. This is the best thing I have done for my son. He has developed so well in all areas, it really make my money well spent! The sch prepares them well for P1. There is spelling and chinese spelling every week, which is the same in most pri sch. The sch taught my son every well in his chinese. As we do not speak mandarin at home, he can now order food on his own in mandarin. Unlike his previous sch, where the teachers do not put in enough effort, but instead told me to send him for additional chinese outside the sch! Most importantly, my son do not fall sick so frequently. In his previous sch, he was sick every month. The hyiene level is very higher than his previous sch. My son could also bath and dress himself. The independence and the peace of mind is something I can't get at Chiltern House. So even I need to pay more for the Kinderland, it is truly worth it.

    Hi April,

I read your comments on CH. I am thinking of enrolling my son there. I had actually visited the school at Halifax Road recently. However, I do have some reservations and what you mentioned about the academic part confirmed it. However, can you provide more details about the lack of hygiene level, independence and peace of mind when he was in CH.

    Hi Ip,

My son was wi CH (Halifax) since N2 till K1, for 1 1/2yrs. I was very disappointed with the sch, management and the teachers. My son was sick every month when he was in CH. CH catered snack from outside. The food was sent to sch at about 1pm and the children have their snack time at 330pm. Once, parents found the rice left uncovered near the toilet, and the management was notified. The parents were then banned from using the toilet on the ground floor. My son also comfirmed that he was given cold rice and noodles. In addition, the sch loves parties every month. Children are encouraged to bring snack. So, my son was exposed to all types of junk food and titbits. At the end of the party, as if that was not bad enough, he was given a big pack of leftover titbits to take home. The sch is not into healthy eating. My son would have very bad cough after the parties. As for training the children to be more independence, CH only pays lip service. The main teacher for K1 was frequently on MC, almost every week. The homework, which the teacher would give occasionally, would be left inside my son's file for weeks. When I asked the assistant teacher why she did not ask for it, she said that children should be independent enough to hand in themselves!! When I asked if she taught him to be that independent, she said he should already know. My son was only 4!! I was so surprised she expected a child that young to hand in the hw himself and never bother to followup. CH also do not stationed teacher near the gate during dismissal. Sometimes the gate would be left open and children could wonder out into the road. Once, a boy from N1 was left out of the sch even though his mom has not arrived. He rode his bicycle into the road!!Luckily there was no cars around. When the teachers were notified, they blamed the boy for coming out alone. I was utterly shocked at their attitude, they should be watching the young child properly instead of blaming him. After more than enough incidents/accidents, I finally chg sch for my son. I have made a right choice, thus I would not recommend CH to any parents who want the best for their precious one.

    Hi April,

Thks much for your feedback, appreciate it. Honestly, I had heard so much about CH. It was only after I went to Halifax that I didn't get a good vibe. I wasn't too impressed about the place or the staff. Furthermore my dealings over the phone with them have not been pleasant experience.

I might go down and take a look at kinderland YCK. At the moment, I am trying to find out about Bethany Church Kindy. Its been recommended to me.

    Hi Ip,

You are right to trust your instrincts. As moms, we will know what suits our son. Some presch are good at marketing, but they dont deliver.
