Any more comments on MMI Thomson?
I had always wanted to send my children to a Montessori school.
I had sent my boy since age 3 and followed by younger sister when she turned 2. But we had bad experience at Kovan Montessori as my young gal had twice door clam accidents in a year on her same finger which caused her whole fingernail to drop off. I was very distressed and pulled both children out. Now my 3rd child is going to be 2. I had put both my gals in Little Footies for a week. After attending school for this week I feel i wanted to change them again. Please recommend any good childcare with full program around AMK area. Or thomson.
You may try Sunny Bunny Montessori
I read of many negative feedbacks around forums of MMI when I was scouting for a childcare for my 2yo end/2008.
But MMI Raffles was my only choice then, near to office, so I enrolled, no other choice. hopefully no bad experience would follow.
But it came out that MMI Raffles was rather good in my opinion. At least, teachers were friendly, and helpful.. Though kids' stuff may be mixed up, etc, but all these are just insignificant issues which could be rectified easily.
My girl was wailing loud for 1st 3 months, and crying softer for next 3 months, and the teachers were patient enough, quite accomodating.. which was to my great relief!
My girl has been there for 1 full year since.. so far so good.. She told me she liked 2 of the teachers there
Good.. she will stay on..
Hi Parents, any comments on MMI Claymore??
Thanks!
Hi all, I am thinking of enrolling my kid in a suitable childcare centre/playgroup around CCK area. I heard about the MMI @ 10 mile junction. Can anyone of you share on any feedback on this particular centre, or if you have any recommendations of other childcare centres around CCK . Thanks in advance!
Hi, trying to find a good school for my 8mth old bb in the ang mo kio,sin ming, bishan area. can anyone help?
Montessori method is a good teaching approach. But it really have to depend on the school to incorporate it. As for my experience, disappointed in Katong MMI. Teacher seem to come and go. Look like a training school. Quite worried for my girl progress. Worse of it, my girl's communication book was lost in school. I had already pulled my girl out.
I am trained in montessori with MMI. Did my practicum in one of the centres and it was an eye opener...I told myself I should withdraw my own gal from childcare! Quality of teachers differ, but nonetheless, I didn't really get a real insight of what montessori is about. Children played with the montessori materials (these materials are not meant for playing, but exploring and learning) and teachers didn't really track the progress of each child individually with heart, ie, they were more concerned with paper work for parents to see, rather than the child's real progress.
During my practicum, there were parents' visits and visits by people from MMI HQ. Teachers are told beforehand and they put on a show. The "naughty child" was delibrately pulled aside and sit with teachers, children were told not to change the materials during the visits, so materials will not mess up or "trouble" will not popped up.
I joined another montessori kindergarten after my practicum and I really see how teachers teach with a heart. Parents came for visits, teachers were told but no special arrangments were made. Children there really get to choose their work and montessori teachers really treat the children with respect. Older kids were taught to take care of the younger ones, and the Principle gave lessons on poverty, environmental issues, etc. Pupils get to dissect vegetables, mix colours on their own without fear they would dirty the place (in MMI, the younger class teacher actually hand held the child to do his painting, it's more of the teacher's work than the boy) and catch grasshoppers.
MMI may produce results with drilling and worksheets (there were indeed a handful of high ability kids in my practicum class), but if you are looking for a place where you child appreciates life and enjoy childhood in the process of learning, i would advise, look further.
sorry for the lengthy post...
