    Hi!

I feel that it is important for me to share this experience i had with all parents who are looking for a preschool for their kids.

To be honest, i am someone who is very concern about the environment in which my girl would be studying in. I am not so much concern about the program which the school would be offering but the environment, people that she will be mixing with.

I have been doing research and had visited a few preschools around woodlands area in hoping to find a suitable preschool for my girl. I came across this centre 'Sweetland educare' situated at a void deck. The childcare set up is very normal, nothing impressive. However, i still decided to check out the programme of that school.

I was very surprised by this scene when i walked pass the school. All the children (about 20 kids) were sitting on the floor watching cartoons. It may seems normal to most parents but having the children sitted on the floor and watching tv at 5pm is something that is not normal. I saw teachers calling names and asking the kids to sit down when some of them started to walk around the class. As a trained educator, aren't they aware that the attention span for younger kids are shorter and it is impossible to get them to sit on the floor for 1-2hrs. At that point of time, it really makes me wonder whether the teachers are qualified and trained. What is the philosophy of the centre? What is the stand of the supervisor? In addition, why is the centre not playing 'educated programs' such as barney and sesame street for the children and instead allowing them to watch violent cartoons? Furthermore, research has clearly demonstrates that well-designed, age-appropriate, educational television can be beneficial to young children. This is something which educators should know and not for parents to remind you.

I strongly feel that the preschool be it the supervisor or person-in-charge should really look into this matter.

Once again, i really hope the school would take this into consideration and make the necessary changes to your sch programs so as to benefit all children in your preschool.

    Regards,
    Mrs Tan

I feel that there is nothing wrong with the children watching cartoons at that time of the day. As it is already the end of the day and the children had already gone through the programme from morning, it is the time for them to relax while waiting to be picked up by their parents. In fact, this is the time that that most of the children look forward to, getting a "reward" after a day of lessons and activities.
I've sent my son there since he was 18 mths all the way till he graduated K2. I'm satisfied with the way the centre had handled and taught him. Of course, not everything is perfect. If you want perfection, home care is best.
I find that the standard of education taught at Sweetlands is higher than most of the childcares that I compared with amongst my colleagues. My son upon entering Primary 1 had an edge in learning and had no difficulty grasping concepts that were otherwise difficult for some of his classmates. This was because Sweetlands had a fun but rigorous programme to prepare my child for P1. I did not have to send my child to expensive programmes like "I Can Read". With the simple Phonics lesson provided at his childcare, he could read well before going to P1.

Impression alone cannot guarantee the effectiveness of a childcare centre unless you have experienced sending your child to that centre.

I am a satisfied mother of N2 currently enrolled at Sweetlands.

I could say that they have a balanced-programme for kids, good environment, and most especially they have PASSIONATE supervisor, PASSIONATE teachers, and PASSIONATE staffs which for me is the most important above everything because they are the ones who influenced and developed our children.

Sweetlands has PASSION for Kids and for me thats the most consideration in looking for the best childcare centre for your child!

the centre must have undergone a dramatic change if comments from the previous forumers can be trusted.

Parents, check it out yourself. To have passionate (capitalised) principal plus teachers plus staff is like striking toto!
